The American Staffordshire Terrier are well known for their strength, protective nature and courageous nature. A well bred American Staffordshire Terrier is have good nature, dependable and loyal companions. If proper care and affection is given to this breed they become an active part of your family. These dogs are sometimes stubborn but can be handled easily by the owner who knows how to engage and handle the dog and enforce command on them. These dogs are good with the family and children. And are friendly with the strangers till the master are present. This breed dogs are excellent fighters so are favorite of the dog fighters.

Body Structure:

The American Staffordshire Terrier are strong dogs as compared to its size. They are agile and have muscular structure. They have dark round eyes which are set apart. The ears are set high on the head. Teeth are in the form of scissor bite. They have strong jaw. The coat of American Staffordshire Terrier is short, thick and glossy. These dogs have large bone structure, size of head is also broad.

The American Staffordshire Terrier are happy and confident dogs. They are intelligent, outgoing and stable dogs. They are affectionate by nature and loves to be around people. They are obedient and extremely loyal to the family. This breed is always ready to please their master. They are intelligent and courageous guard dogs. The are highly protective towards owners family and property. They must be socialized at early stage. The American Staffordshire Terrier are okay with apartment life if they get ample exercise daily. This breed can live without yard as they are quite active indoors. The American Staffordshire Terrier mostly prefer warm weather. The American Staffordshire Terrier comes in various coat colors like black, tan, white and liver.


This breed have short hairs which are smooth and easy to groom. They must be brushed on the regular basis with firm bristle brush, and must be given bath with shampoo when necessary many grooming accessories are available to groom the dog. This dog is an average shedder. The oral care must be taken care in proper way and particular interval of time to avoid oral problems.

Health Issues:

The American Staffordshire Terrier are prone to diseases like hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, thyroid, heart murmurs, congenital heart diseases, skin allergies and tumors. This dog breed may suffer from ligament rupture.


The height measure of males is 17 to 19 inches whereas in females it is 16 to 18 inches.


This dog breed weight around 25 to 30 kg both in males and females.
