This animal is also known as Hush Puppy with a big nose and has ears which are very long. It originates in Great Britain France. The Basset Hound breed of dog is a breed with short-legged of the hound family, also they are the sixth recognized Basset breeds in France, beyond this Bassets are scent hounds, which are basically bred for the purpose of hunting rabbits and hare. They stand second in case of sense of smelling for tracking to that of the bloodhound.
The word Basset has been derived from the word ‘bas’ which is basically a French word meaning “low”, with the suffix -et, the combination of both the words means “rather low”. The colour of Basset Hounds are usually Bicolors or Tricolors .
Basset Fauve de Bretagne
This hound Basset Fauve de Bretagne is the smallest hound and he along with the Basset Hound are built along the same lines, these are lighter body hounds but longer in the leg. They have a coat which is very harsh to the touch and is dense, red-wheaten or fawn also called as wire-coated. They have a fur which is coarse, dense and may require stripping.
They have short hair on the ears, finer and darker than that on the coat. The end of the nose is just reached by the ears rather than trailing on the ground and should be pleated. They have dark eyes and nose and ideally no crook on the front legs. The French standard says that of all the basset breeds, these are the shortest backed so they generally do not appear as exaggerated as the British Basset.
Basset Bleu de Gascogne
Of all the hound type,the Baset Bleu De Gascogne also known as the Bleu Gascony Basset,is a long-backed,short legged breed of dog.From the old breed of Grand Bleu De Gascogne ,the Basset Bleu De Gascogne has been descended directly.They have been recorded in paintings,from the 14th century,in Gascony,southwest France.
A breed which originates in the Middle Ages which descends from the Grand Bleu De Gascogne however around the early 19th century it got extinct and its saviour was attributed to Alain Bourbon. It is rare outside of its homeland and is a French native breed. In the UK by the Kennel Club, it is recognized internationally by the Federation Cynoloqique Internationale, and by the United Kennel Club in the United States. The “bleu” of its name is a reference to its coat which has a ticked appearance.
In case of males it is 25–34 kg and in females it is 20–29 kg.
In case of males it is 30–38 cm and in females it is 28–36 cm.
It has a short,smooth, and close generally black, white and tri-colour or tan/lemon and bi-colour but any recognized hound colour is acceptable.
It has a life span of 11-12 yrs.
