Doberman Pinscher breed of dog was first bred in Germany. These dogs were specially bred to be guard dogs. These dogs were known to be the most aggressive dog among the other dog breeds. For controlling there aggression they were given rigorous training which at last was helpful in controlling the nature of this breed. Earlier due to this reason these dogs were not kept as pets but now they are used as domestic animals.
Doberman Pinscher is muscular and powerful dog breed. They have compact body and square built which gives strength and endurance. They are very proud and alert dog. They are used as watch dogs. They have long head which looks blunt when looked from side. Top of the skull is flat. The nose color depends on the coat color of the dog. The teeth of this breed meets in scissor bite. The eyes are found to be in different shades of brown which is almond shaped. The ears of the Doberman Pinscher are cut at the age of 12 weeks to make them stand erect. If the ears of this breed are not cropped then they grow like hound and hung on the either side of the face. The tail of Doberman Pinscher is docked when the pup is of 3 days. The coat of the dog is short, hard and thick which lies close to the skin.
Temperament and Behavior:
This dog breed is very energetic with lots of strength and stamina. Doberman Pinscher loves to be with the family rather being in the kennels or backyards. This breed is very loyal and dedicated to the owner. They are affectionate to the family and are very tolerant. While working this breed posses qualities like determined, assertive and bold. This breed of dog is versatile, highly skilled and adaptable by nature. These dogs are easy to train. They must be taken on a daily walk or jog and must be lead by the humans.
The coat of Doberman Pinscher is sleek, smooth and close to the skin of the dog. The breed is found in colors like black, fawn, red and blue. These dog have rust marking above each eye. Since these dogs have sleek coat so require minimal grooming. They are average ahedder so need to be brushed every week. They does not require frequent bathing. But must be given bath when they smell foul or have played in mud. There teeth must be brushed twice at least in a week. To groom the dogs certain accessories and kits are also available.
This breed goes through number of health concerns. Doberman Pinscher are prone to obesity in there middle age. They suffer from problems like skin diseases, hip dysplasia and heart defects. Some of the very common health problem in Doberman Pinscher are Von Willebrand’s Disease, Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), Hypothyroidism, Wobbler’s Syndrome, and many more.
The males of this breed are 26-28 inches tall where as the females are 24 to 26 inches.
Weight of Doberman Pinscher varies from 30 to 40 kg.
The life expectancy of this breed is up to 13 years.
