Icelandic Sheepdog:

Icelandic Sheepdog were bought to Iceland with Viking in mid 800 century. These dogs were used as working dog for collecting sheep, horse and cattle. The dogs have opted the working style to local terrain and farming techniques in a very well way. Because of this reason the people of Iceland got indispensable of these dogs. This dog is one of the oldest dog breed in the world. In the present scenario the number of the dog in this breed is very less but have gained much popularity.

Body Structure:

Icelandic Sheepdog large nose.The eyes of this dog is medium sized and almond shaped which are dark brown in color. The head of these dogs are arched with compact muzzle’s. The forelegs have double dewclaws. They have muscular legs which is carried high. The back of this dog is strong and muscular. The tail is curled on the back which is set high. The teeth of this breed are in scissor bite. The ears are medium, triangular and are always erect. The coat color are available in tan, reddish-brown, chocolate, grey, black, with white as prominent color.

Temperament and Behavior:

The Icelandic Sheepdog are inquisitive. They love to enjoy and play being in a friendly environment. Sometimes they are agile and very hardy. They are the working dogs and are very much praised in their native country. They are also been a loving domestic dogs. They are very tough and energetic as well when it come to work. The coat of the Icelandic Sheepdog comes in double coat which is very thick and water resistant. They are in two variety i.e. Shorthaired Sheepdog and Longhaired Sheepdog. This dog breed is a low shedder and blow away its coat twice in a year. Since these dogs are found on the icy place so the nails grow long in a short span of time which are needed to be trimmed  very frequently. Health Issues:

Usually these breed of dog is very healthy but can suffer from some common diseases in the dogs. They can suffer from Hip Dysplasia. This breed rarely get infected from eye problems.
